Arrived at the High School tardy. Soccer practice was underway on the back field at 0950 and no gulls of any sort were found.
Met Don Peckham and we found the Mew Gull with over 250 Ring-billed Gulls at the Thomaston waste treatment site, the location mentioned by Doug last week. We enjoyed the view as it swam in the most southern settling pond. The darker mantle, smaller bill and slightly more svelte habitus were not diffIcult to discern with the nearby RBGUs. The bill was unmarked. We watched until a soaring Red-shouldered Hawk bumped everything but the ducks. In the confusion I was not able to get the scope on the bird to appreciate details of the primaries.
