[Maine-birds] One legged shorebirds

I don't know if its just me, but I've noticed a lot of shorebirds, especially plovers with one leg, It's sad to see them trying to keep up with the two legged ones, especially feeding. Can this be genetics, natural causes or bad leg banding? None of these birds had any visible tags
