Just back from a roughly 30 hour trip to Rangeley and other NW areas. We camped at Rangeley Lake and then did the rt 16 tour and back on 26 through Grafton Notch. Highlights :
At Messalonskee on the way up a Sandhill Crane was seen.
On Quill Hill north of Rangeley were 5-10 territorial Mourning Warblers. Also a Blackpoll was up here.
Canada Warblers and Nashville Warblers were decidedly common this year with double digits of both. On the flip side we were skunked for Bay-breast and Cape May.
A single Boreal Chickadee was down one of the route 16 pullouts.
A Gray Jay family was near Wilsons Mills.
At least five Yellow-bellied Flycatchers were heard.
At least four Philly Vireos were at the trail parking lot in Grafton Notch SP.
As usual, Blackburnian were easy to find, and Y rump, Magnolia, and Redstarts were abundant. Also Swainson's Thrush. Northern Watherthrush were easy to find along the Kennebago.
77 species total including 17 warblers. Five moose!
