[Maine-birds] Additional Highlights and Shorebird High Counts This Week, 8/30-9/5

Hi all,

Just a couple of additional sightings of note, not previously posted here, from me over the past seven days included:

- 1 continuing juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, Elphis Pond, Biddeford, 9/2 (with Jeannette: fog obscured our view and the second bird could easily have been present).|

- 22 Wood Ducks, Florida Lake Park, Freeport, 9/5.

And my shorebird high counts this week were as follows (many totals kept low by the lack of a Scarborough Marsh visit this week):

Black-bellied Plover: 55, Wharton Point, Brunswick, 9/3.

AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER:1 adult (FOY), Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

Semipalmated Plover: 82, Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

Killdeer: 12, Mayall Rd, Gray/New Gloucester, 9/1 (with Jeannette).

AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER: 4 (continuing family group), Hill's Beach, Biddeford, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

Greater Yellowlegs: 45, Wharton Point, 9/3.

Lesser Yellowlegs: 8, Wharton Point, 9/3.

Spotted Sandpiper: 2, Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

Whimbrel: 1, Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

Ruddy Turnstone: 18, Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

Red Knot: 1 juvenile, Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

Sanderling: 26, Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

Semipalmated Sandpiper: 200+, Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

WESTERN SANDPIPER: 1 probable continuing juvenile, Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

Least Sandpiper: 20+, Addison Marsh, 8/31 (with tour group).

White-rumped Sandpiper: 6, Biddeford Pool Beach, 9/2 (with Jeannette).

BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER: 1, Lubec flats, 8/30 (with tour group).

Short-billed Dowitcher: 7, Hill's Beach, Biddeford, 9/2 (with Jeannette). 

American Woodcock: 1, Machias Multi-use Trail, 8/30 (with tour group).
