It was brutal on the Rockland Breakwater yesterday morning, but well worth the exposure (pardon the pun). I saw a group of three purple sandpipers feeding. Then, further along I flushed a flock of maybe 30-40. I didn't expect to see much in that wind and cold, but that was a treat.
Later and calmer, at Rockport Harbor I caught an American coot swimming with a group of mallards. I sat for over an hour watching them feed and swim around. At one point a loon surfaced only a few yard away from the group...wings flapped and feathers flew...I don't know which was more surprised the loon or the ducks. Lots of fun on a nice Maine day.
Cheers,
Dave
