[Maine-birds] Red poles, goldfinches, eagles, a robin, and a pileated!

Busy couple days up here on the pond! We live outside Augusta and have had goldfinches one day and redpoles the next day. I think they were common and not hoary redpoles but one male had his rosy red breeding colors on already. Only one other male spotted but with less bold rosiness. About a dozen females with them so the odds are in the boys favor. Will post pics soon. Had a brief visit from a single robin Monday and the dog and I got screeched at this morning by a pileated woodpecker as it swooped past, but he's been around all winter. We see the bald eagles daily but more frequently now. I think they're as eager as we are for the pond to open. Its been slim pickings for them in all this snow because there hasn't been much ice fishing going on. Can't wait for the day the pond opens up and the loons come back the same day and it should be soon with warmer temps. Fingers crossed for Springy things! -Anita
