[Maine-birds] Snowy Owl! Biddeford Pool :-) Bohemes Kennebunk

Probably everyone has seen this SNOW since I posted a quest for one, but I was pleased to get out and see one today. It was fairly close to the road on Mile Stretch Road, left of the former Hatties, overlooking the marsh. "Bare-eye" ID, sitting next to dark branches on a little hump; great with scope. It was looking around, almost caught a duck twice. Fun to see it fly; I hope it survives. It looked OK. My guess is adult male; quite white. I have photos (digiscoping without an adapter... going to buy a new camera.)  Mile Stretch Rd. is flooded in one place; will get worse. The road along the ocean (Ocean Rd.?) was too flooded to drive completely through.

Also stopped in Kennebunk at Rogers Pond, off Route One, where a photographer was getting shots of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS. There were only (!) about a dozen right where we were, but others may have been farther down the river. I didn't see what they were eating; berries in another spot?  All Bohemes that I saw.  :-)  Rusty under-tail coverts.  Beautiful. A man walking his dog said he heard them calling as they flew across the frozen pond.

At Vines Park in Biddeford Pool, 2 white-winged Scoters, 2 Common Loons and two C. Goldeneyes, as well as the usual C. Eider.

Quite a day; two great species!!! And mild temps... 50 mid afternoon.
