[Maine-birds] Chukar - Maguire Rd (Wells/Kennebunk Plains)

I was VERY surprised to see two chukar on the sandroad that leaves the Maguire Rd parking area of the Kennebunk Plains Wildlife Management Area this morning.

I was out with a group of wildlife trackers and were debating the maker of the game bird tracks on the sandroad (slightly too large for grouse and slightly too small for pheasant). Lo and behold, one of our group spotted the pair of birds up ahead and we got them in the binocs for 5 minutes.

Broad, black stripe thru the eye, down the neck, and onto the chest. Obvious black and chestnut barring on the chest. Pinkish/red bill and feet.

Lifebird!
