[Maine-birds] Sabattus Pond Scaup, Ruddy Ducks, Coot and Pied Billed Grebes

Hello All,

Sabattus Pond continues to heat up with over 100 scaup of both species and perhaps 200 Ruddy Ducks.  Other species including 3 Pied-billed Grebes, 2 Bufflehead, Mallards and one each American Black Duck and American Coot.

Did not see Redhead but had only a short time to bird the area.  That and high winds with nervous birds and very active foraging (diving) made ID by head profile but chubby cheeks (or not) bill size, shape and nail and the close views of some Scaup made ID relatively easy for majority of birds.

All these species and most of these birds seen from Sanborn Road which is off Access Road from 133 on the East side of the lake.  Few birds from South End Beach or Martin's Point on my visit.  All this can change with wind directions, presence of Bald Eagles etc. Please stay on road and do not cross private property.  I have gradually made contact with residents over the years and if you are respectful and friendly they may invite you to go to their shoreline to view birds but lets not ruin that possibility.
