While fish and bird activity associated with the annual alewife run are currently at a modest level, things are progressing daily. This morning a dozen ospreys were hunting in the section of river in the village between the Main Street bridge and Payson Park. Occasionally an osprey snatches a fish, with some subsequent tail-chases by several eagles. Gull and cormorant numbers are gradually increasing. A new restaurant has just opened at the west foot of the bridge, with an outer deck area for close river viewing.
