This afternoon at dusk, a Barred Owl came out of the woods to perch around our yard, hunting. I watched it for about half an hour, flying from perch to perch, and got a few photos. I know they are not unusual or rare, and I have often heard them in the woods behind our house, but until this week I had never laid eyes on one in the wild. Last Monday, though, I saw one sitting on a power line along the road about 5 miles north of here, in a snowstorm at dusk. I wonder if this might be the same bird, in search of a territory?
