[Maine-birds] Update - BULLOCK'S ORIOLE, Camden

Peter Vickery asked if I knew whether the BULLOCK'S ORIOLE, first spotted in mid-November, was still being seen here in Camden. I didn't know, so tonight I contacted Melinda Sortwell, the homeowner who first spotted and identified him at her feeders.

Here is her (surprising!) response, which I thought worth sharing with you all as a point of interest:
He's still here poor thing. Lots of live mealworms which the titmice are loving. He might make it if he made it through that cold. Loves the grapes!

Seeing an out-of-range and/or out-of-season species can be a bittersweet event, as it often seems that many of these misguided birds are doomed simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time, with no chance of finding their way back to where they belong. But you never know. That Townsend's Warbler that was coming to John Wyatt's bird feeders in Winterport a few years ago persisted into the winter until it was nabbed by a Sharp-shinned Hawk. These little guys can be a lot tougher than we expect. And Melinda's certainly doing her best to support this oriole!
