Sunday, December 18th, 11 brave individuals started out into the freezing rain for Lewiston/Auburns 37th Christmas Bird Count. Thankfully, temperatures rose to the 40's and drizzle turned to fog. 44 species were tallied for the day. Notable birds were a Merlin, a late Turkey Vulture, Peregrine Falcon, 2 Eastern Bluebirds and 3 Northern Mockingbirds. Count week birds included a Red-Bellied Woodpecker and Sharp-Shinned Hawk. Horned Larks were high at 82 individuals, and seen in 3 of the 6 sectors.
