Birded Scarborough Marsh yesterday (20-Dec) at the Eastern Trail and Pine Point.
Belted Kingfisher perched over channel at the Eastern Trail on the south side of Route 9. Pair of adult Bald Eagles visible from the trail on the east side of the marsh.
VERY late adult Black-crowned Night Heron visible from the bridge on Rt 9 just before getting to Pine Point. It was standing in the icy water of the channel on the east side.
At Pine Point we saw an immature Northern Goshawk on a telephone pole near the coop. The hawk flushed a group of Rock Pigeons then attacked and captured one of them. It ate the pigeon in a cluster of pines by the outhouses.
