Many eagles drawn by the alewives below the Benton Falls Dam. They should be in the air, on the rocks, and in the trees for the next few weeks.
Red wing black birds and grackles arrived this week one mile upstream of the dam. Baltimore oriole seen singing away on the top of a silver maple at the river's edge.

A couple of weeks ago we had thousands of blackbirds that flew in and landed in a field just below our house. About a week later they were in our backyard and up in all the trees. We didn't see them again once they left the yard.

Benton - Sebasticook River: We were commenting Sunday that there were very few blackbirds this year. There usually are 20 pairs or more on the grass islands. There are none nesting in the fields and wetlands close to the river. I have seen a few lone red wing black birds, but not the numbers seen in previous years.

Very few blackbirds in Skowhegan/Madison area this spring and did not see any on a recent trip to South Portland and back. Normally see some this time of year along the Interstate.

We had thousands of grackles and blackbirds here in Pittsfield several weeks ago - many more than usual. They visited daily for nearly a week.
While everyone is posting their FOYs this is a post about a negative. For the first time in probably 25-30 years I have not had a flock of 100-200 mixed grackles, redwings and cowbirds. In fact I have yet to have a single redwing or grackle, one loan cowbird.
