[Maine-birds] Little Gull - Head Beach, Phippsburg - Sep 17

A 1st Winter Little Gull was foraging on the eastern end of Head Beach ( Hermit Island entrance) early this morning.  Bullied by a Herring Gull (followed by a beggar) it stood its ground.  The bird had some munged up secondaries in its right wing, but was able to fly well.  Which it did, disappearing around the rocks toward Bald Head.  Photos in tricky light later today.

A large group of Bonies spends late flood and high tide off Green Point, Atkins Bay, and this gathering may attract the Little Gull.  I checked there late morning, and only found 42 Bonies and 110 Ring-Billed Gulls, plus a solo Am Golden Plover.

Other signs of a flight this morning included a huge group of BJs, flying stratospherically high, off the Gulf of Maine, and up the Phippsburg Peninsula.
