[Maine-birds] fun with redpolls

I've been having fun sorting through the flock of 30+ redpolls at our feeders and trying to tease out hoary redpolls from the more abundant commons. Many thanks to friends who have offered me guidance on this. During the past two days we've had one larger, paler hoary that is very agressive at the feeders, and another smaller, browner hoary that tends to hang back and wait for an opening.  I've pondered whether I have two age classes based on behavior and two subspecies based on appearance?  .........  Guess I'll keep pondering that.
