Hiked up Beech Hill with Brian Willson this afternoon. Highlights were
a big flock of foraging robins, about 50 of them, wandering all over
the hill: first in the sumacs, then foraging on the ground in the bare
patches of the blueberry fields, and then kicking up leaves in the
clear patches of woods and along the stone wall. Another surprise was
a single flicker with the robins, and then a flock of 4 together
elsewhere. There may even have been a 6th flicker--they seemed to be
all over. Brian has been seeing 1-2 there all winter, but I wasn't
expecting to encounter a bunch! Also, Red-tailed Hawk soared past,
teed up on a pine tree for a while.
