[Maine-birds] Auburn Bufflehead (pair) and Hermit Thrush

Hello All,

Unexpected and a first on my Auburn River Survey was a pair of Buffleheads today just below the falls.  Also present were the usual Mallards, Hooded and Common Merganser and Common Goldeneye along the riverwalk.

Further upstream along a tributary of the Androscoggin on North River Road was a Hermit Thrush.  This is in an area rich with persistent fruit, running water all year and  a hillside that gets the morning and mid-day sun, so It is not out of the question that it could survive even this harsh winter in this micro-habitat.

The ice cover on the river was at its winter maximum today.  Hard to believe.

Hoped for some other early spring arrivals in my travels but saw none (assuming that the thrush was overwintering).
