Just a reminder.. The path to the viewing platform....Make sure you tick proof yourself. I got a tick embedded in me from there once.

The paved parking area on Buttermilk Lane gives westward views of pools and pannes; the roadside pannes are often productive in the early morning.
About 100 yards north of the parking area, a wooded trail leads out to a well constructed viewing stand that is generally under utilized by birders; this venue provides a lengthwise marsh view and highlights other areas not visible from the roadway.
From the paved parking area and proceeding further south along Buttermilk Lane to the hilltop summit (near an old barn foundation) is a more expansive view of the marsh, with several deeper pools favored by ducks, herons and other waders.
The Weskeag River is tidal. The pools and pannes within the marsh are flooded monthly by sea water, but are otherwise rain dependent. In spring ang late summer shorebird seasons, the best time to visit is high tide. During the brief spring waterfowl migration period, any time birds are present is good.
