Bath, Maine north end
While lurking around in search of the Red Headed woodpecker on the Whiskeag road (not there), I was nearly swept away by a massive flock numbering an easy 125 or better of mixed Common Grackles, Red winged blackbirds and brown headed cowbirds noisily feeding in a dirt drive. The clatter and chatter as they squawked and creaked at each other, rising to the trees, swirling around and landing anew was quit cheerful and reassuring, in an icky icteridish (yes, I just made that word up) way that spring might really come (after tomorrow, anyway.)
Assortment of
goldfinches
chickadees
juncos,
titmice
one downy wp,
one hairy wp all shying clear of the black winged multitudes. No wonder the RHW was nowhere to be found!
Three immature Bald eagles
