Weather:
A very chilly start gave way to a rather pleasant day on the summit.
Although temperatures never quite made it to the freezing mark in the
shade, the strong sun and light winds allowed people to shed layers at the
count. Very light NW in the am became light W in the pm, with a few
southerly puffs in the early afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Migrants trickled through slowly but steadily, with local Bald Eagles being
particularly active in the afternoon.
Non-raptor Observations:
A mere 16 species were seen and/or heard from the summit today, with the
non-raptors being deemed migrating limited to:
24 Americans Crows
2 Purple Finches
1 Great Blue Heron
Predictions:
After another very cold start to the day, high pressure slides off to the
northeast, with light northeasterly winds in the am becoming southeasterly
in the afternoon. Clouds will thicken and a little light snow could arrive
by the end of the count. Especially if we get a little sun in the morning,
the day should rise into the upper 30's, and if the winds remain light
enough, it should be rather comfortable. Especially as winds turn around
to the SE, we should see at least a little flight ahead of the approaching
low pressure system.
