[Maine-birds] Red-Heads, Red-Wings & cats

The long-staying North Bath Red-Headed Woodpecker is apparently gone, or no longer extant.  Today was my fourth visit in a little over a week, and it was not present.  Talked to the owner who verified that impression, and also verified that the bird has been at his suet feeders since early January.  He also relayed that the bird had become habituated to humans and pets.  He had seen a cat hanging out in his yard at about the same time as its disappearance and concludes that the bird fell victim to it.  Score another one for cats, feral or otherwise.

There were 5 Red-Winged Blackbirds at the top of a tall maple tree at the edge of Whiskeag Creek.
