[Maine-birds] Popham birding

Nice walk around Popham beach today, with extremely low tide. Here some highlights:

From the rock island:

1 black guillemot
4-5 red-throated loons
4 snow bunting
2 horned larks
4 horned grebes
1 surf scoter
7 common mergansers

Around the lagoon:

12+ bufflehead
1 chipping sparrow (?)
2 semipalmated plovers
1 white-rumped sandpiper (?)

and various gulls (still working on identifying those). I was not expecting to see any waders… and I have a little doubt about the sandpiper: I was pretty close, but could not see any orange spot on the bill. If anybody would like to help me with ID, I just uploaded some pics of the sandpiper (and a late chipping sparrow?) here:

Good birding,

Francesco
