A fair number of foraging sparrows on Wednesday in the weedy commercial gardens at junction of Buttermilk Lane and Thomaston Street in So Thomaston yesterday. The mixed group included Song, Savannah, a few Tree and Juncos. A single, bright-plumaged Lark Sparrow was observed and photographed at close range as it repeatedly fed in grassy roadside margins. A flock of 40 Red-winged Blackbirds in a remnant patch of corn at mid field. This site is often active with sparrows, but the constant stream of car traffic using the Thomaston Street crossroad keeps birds and birders alike on their toes.
