I just saw a male Black-backed woodpecker foraging in a dead white pine. I watched it for about ten minutes before it moved on. Location is 320 North Newcastle rd. The bird was first seen in the pines on the north side of the road and then moved to a big dead white pine on the south side of the road. I will post if it returns.
After seeing this northern bird, the next species I saw was a Red-bellied Woodpecker!
