[Maine-birds] White-eyed Vireo this a.m. Acadia NP--Otter Cove Parking Pad Rd., Oct 11, 2015

Good morning all -- I visited this location at 6:55 this morning, and spent 30 minutes along the short spur road and then scanning with scope out to sea. The White-eyed Vireo reported to eBird yesterday by M. Good was shy but seen well for ~30 seconds. Location when spotted was in apple trees along the roadside, ascending from the parking pad back toward the CCC stone bridge overpass. Also enjoyed:

2 juv Y-b Sapsuckers
1 Swamp and 1 Song sparrow
110 N. Gannets estimated in only 5 minutes of scope scanning well out to sea from this limited viewpoint. Good day for Gannet spotting, I'm thinking!

Best,

Protocol: Traveling
0.1 mile(s)
Comments:     Grey and overcast, mod wind, temp in low 50s
13 species

Common Eider  1
Common Loon  5
Northern Gannet  110     Mix of adults and juvs scanned in scope from s. to n., counted in 1s and 5s. Active and in flight; relatively near to shore but scope was necessary. Poor vantage point relative to Otter Pt or Thunder Hole, I'm guessing.
Double-crested Cormorant  2
Ring-billed Gull  1
Herring Gull  60
Great Black-backed Gull  2
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker  2     Silently working apple trees along edges of road
White-eyed Vireo  1     Short, thickish bill, obvious yellow eye ring and spectacle, two clear wing bars, yellow on flanks and undertail coverts. Short dark tail. Active and shy, seen for about 30 seconds. Location was pair of apple trees below the CCC stone bridge and above the parking pad. Apparently dark eye (no white iris seen). Reported yesterday by M. Good.
American Crow  12
Common Raven  2
Song Sparrow  1
Swamp Sparrow  1     Seen well twice thanks to pishing, but very skulky. Keeping close company with SOSP
