Jim Backhaus and I searched for the Black-throated Sparrow on Hillcrest and Barnacle Lane starting at 1:30 today. We found chickadees, goldfinches, jays, tree sparrow and juncos in the brushy fields surrounding these lanes. At 2:30 we returned to 13 Barnacle Lane and parked on the opposite side of the road in good view of the feeder area. At 3:00 the feeder was active with chickadees while the ground had doves and quite a few juncos. I spotted the Black-throated Sparrow on the ground close to the doves and juncos and managed to get one poor photo of the bird before all the birds flushed and the juncos and sparrow flew into a cedar next to the drive. We waited ten minutes and the birds returned to the feeder area. The Black-throated Sparrow stayed back near the foundation partially obscured by bushes but we managed some brief good views of the bird but no great photos.
