[Maine-birds] Re: Glen Jenks

Hi, Everyone,

I was also saddened to learn about losing Glen Jenks.  Several friends and I went to a presentation on roses at Merry Spring in Camden last summer – gardening, and roses, in particular were another of Glen's many interests.  That day, Glen gave a great presentation about roses, and what is happening in the commercial rose world, (not good), and what roses to grow for great results here in Maine.  (At this point, we recognized his name from this list, as a couple of us are also birders. That was followed by his narrated tour of Merry Spring's lovely rose garden.  Next, he led us to an incredible garden with truly magnificent roses – glorious!  And on to an old estate, with many roses, wonderful views, and lots of history.  Last, he led us to his home – I don't recall any grass at all – there were roses everywhere, and many, many other wonderful plants too.  I couldn't imagine how he found the time to maintain the garden, and then I learned about his music interests, too!  How incredibly talented and focused he was!  He was as welcoming and friendly and encouraging as he could be, and will be so very, very missed.
