[Maine-birds] Western Tanager

I have been checking the Saco Riverwalk and finally had the WETA yesterday morning at 8:05 am. It was almost at the entrance along the trees next to the river. It was perching for a minute or two and the flew a few feet toward the gazebo. It was in the company of bluebirds. It then turned the corner toward the magic hill continued down the path. Finally it flew across the path toward the vegetation on the left side of the hill. Not wanting to push the bird I lagged behind. It gone by the time I arrived at the hill. The whole time it would fly and perch quietly,

I met Steve Pollach about 15 minutes later who reported that he had the bird the same time and place both Friday and Saturday mornings. We did not see it again.

As I was driving away I met Turk and Linda. Turk reported seeing the bird in the middle of Saturday's snowstorm right where I first encountered it.

Bottom line- early AM seems best, at the entrance of the walk. Good luck!
