Found another YBChat today in Parker Head, Sagadahoc County. In a tangle of bittersweet and Rosa sp., 150 yds So. of the Parker Head School. On a steep slope overlooking a Beaver Pond. (Another adult.)
This might be Chat No. 10, for Maine, since September. I'm very curious whether they might actually be hardy enough to survive the winter in New England. There are a lot of records for the Middle Atlantic Bight thru the winter and spring. I suppose open water may be a limiting factor (in addition to berries), and there are several locations at the southern tip of the Phippsburg Peninsula where I see unfrozen water thru the winter. May be interesting to keep tabs on these birds. Maine birds mailing list
