[Maine-birds] Bar Harbor Whale Watch, 10/3 and 10/4.

Hi all,
Jeannette and I spent a couple of beautiful days in Bar Harbor, enjoying two outings on the AtlanticCat with Zack Klyver and the Bar Harbor Whale Watch Company.

10/3: 12:00-3:45.
-increasing clouds, lt SW to moderate NE, seas 2-4ft with long period swells and minimal chop.

537 Great Shearwaters
9 Common Loons
6 Laughing Gulls
3 Unidentified phalaropes
2 Surf Scoters
2 subadult Pomarine Jaegers
1 WOOD DUCK - circling Mt. Desert Rock.
1 CORY'S SHEARWATER
1 Razorbill
1 Peregrine Falcon pursuing Unidentifed passerine 20 miles offshore. Passerine dove into the crowds on the bow and avoided the Peregrine by entering the cabin!

3-4 Fin Whales
1 Humpback Whale

10/4: 12:10-4:10
-clear, lt to moderate E, seas 3-4 ft with 6 second period swell.

70 Great Shearwaters
24 Northern Gannets
14 Northern Fulmars
4 Laughing Gulls
3 Common Loons
3 Pomarine Jaegers (1 subadult, 1 adult, 1 juv/1st winter)
1 Lesser Black-backed Gull (juv)
1 Black-legged Kittiwake (ad)

2 Humpback Whales
1 NORTH ATLANTIC RIGHT WHALE (subadult, 12 miles out of bay)

1 Basking Shark
