We spent a delightful morning and early afternoon birding on the Schoodic yesterday. Highlights included a Northern Shrike in spruce trees on the shoreline just before the turnoff to the Schoodic Head road, 9 Northern Gannets seen from both Schoodic Point and Blueberry Hill parking lot, 20+ Harlequin Ducks on the water above the reef to the east of Schoodic Island, large flocks of Black Scoters, a Northern Harrier hunting on Schoodic Island (this is the second time we have seen a Northern Harrier on this island in the past month) and lots of Common Loons in the water between Schoodic Point and Blueberry Hill.
We were also treated to views of porpoise sp. in the water along the road to Schoodic Point and good views of a white weasel (ermine) at the entrance to the Schoodic Institute.
The sky was dramatic and most beautiful was the sun on the Northern Gannets' wings!
