While doing a seawatch from Fort Foster In Kittery Point tonight (Thursday) I observed 140 gannets from 530 to 730. A mix of plumages, and many were diving within a ¼ mile of shore.
Also watched what appeared to be an exhausted juvenal Sabine’s gull on one of the rocky islands just off shore. Took careful notes on this small gray gull with black bill. Black subterminal band on tail, dark primaries. Body feathers almost uniformly gray edged with white. About half the size of a black backed gull. Sat the whole time I was watching, even during what appeared to be a brief conversation with a spotted sandpiper.
