[Maine-birds] World Shorebird Day-- September 6

Almost daily, we learn more about what astonishing creatures shorebirds are, but at the same time how their populations are disappearing. World Shorebirds Day celebrates their wonder and brings attention to their plights. And in that celebration, we are reminded of our connectedness to one another and all life on this good green planet.

A major activity of WSD is the Global Shorebird Count, held every year on the weekend nearest September 6.,  intended to raise awareness of the importance of regular monitoring to protect bird populations and conserve their habitats.  Last year, some 20 independent checklists were submitted from Maine, but this pales in comparison to states like Texas with more than 100.  (We did, however, blow the pants off Massachusetts with only 10 or 12.)

I hope everyone interested will participate this year.  Learn more at https://worldshorebirdsday.wordpress.com.
