[Maine-birds] York County pelagic report (8/21) -- SOUTH POLAR SKUA...

Hi all,

On Monday (8/21), I went out on another deep sea fishing trip aboard
the F/V Nor'easter out of Kennebunk with Captain Mike Perkins and mate
Mike Harlow. Leaving Kennebunk at 7:30am, we motored ~25 miles (2
hours) to the northern tip of Jeffreys Ledge, where nearly 5 hours was
spent fishing (by most) and birding (by me) before motoring back to
Kennebunk, arriving at the dock shortly after 4:30pm.

Here's a summary of my bird sightings for the day, with links below to
my eBird checklists.

3+ CORY'S SHEARWATER
8+ GREAT SHEARWATER
200+ WILSON'S STORM-PETREL
~150 NORTHERN GANNET (most during segment 1)
12+ RED-NECKED PHALAROPE (segments 3 & 6)
1 SOUTH POLAR SKUA (segment 4) -- I originally called this bird a
Pomarine Jaeger. Thanks to L. Seitz and L. Bevier for setting the
record straight. Lifer!
