[Maine-birds] York County pelagic report (8/2)...

Hi all,

This past Wednesday, Louis Bevier, Gordon Smith, and I went out on a
deep sea fishing (and, for us, birding) trip aboard the F/V Nor'easter
out of Kennebunk with Captain Mike Perkins and mate Mike Harlow.
Leaving Kennebunk at 7:30am, we motored ~25 miles (2 hours) to the
northern tip of Jeffreys Ledge, where nearly 5 hours was spent fishing
(by most), birding (by Louis and Gordon), or fishing and birding (by
me*), before motoring back to Kennebunk.

While the three of us were the only birders on board, the Captain,
mate, and some of the passengers were interested in our sightings and
responded well to our collective excitement. Below is a summary of our
sightings for the day. Also, below are links to the eBird checklists
that Louis compiled, several of which include photos.

10+ CORY'S SHEARWATER
5+ GREAT SHEARWATER
1 SOOTY SHEARWATER (segment 4)
1 MANX SHEARWATER (spotted by Gordon; segment 4)

~1000 WILSON'S STORM-PETREL (most during segment 4)
2 LEACH'S STORM-PETREL (spotted/photographed by Louis; segment 3 & 4)

1 PHALAROPE SP. (segment 4)

1 POMARINE JAEGER (likely the same immature dark morph seen during
segments 4, 5, & 6)

1 YELLOW WARBLER (segment 6)
