Maine Birds:  American Coot re-located

Alamoosook Branch of the Penobscot River Upper Falls Road, Hancock, US-ME
Feb 4, 2013 1:00 PM - 1:25 PM
Protocol: Stationary
Comments: My daughter Madeleine saw her first Maine
American Coot (Fulica americana) in the Alamoosook branch of the Penobscot River. Good photos taken and can be found on Flickr.com. This rare bird in Maine is even less likely in Maine in February so a great bird first reported by someone and then Craig Kesselheim. The Coot was diving on occasion on the eastern side of Upper Falls Road and Soper Road as reported by Craig. There is a small turnout on Soper to make observations. Re-confirming that the bird looks healthy and has some Mallard friends.
