Re: [Maine-birds] Re: (Maine Birds) Maine Birds: American Coot re-located on Alamoosook Stream

Glad to see that the Orland American Coot that I first reported to eBird on 02/02 has been re-found an enjoyed by others. Sorry that I didn't shoot an email to the list-serv when I saw this. Didn't think that it was that uncommon, though I agree that they are not often seen in this area.
Good birding,
William

Comments: My daughter Madeleine saw her first Maine
American Coot (Fulica americana) in the Alamoosook branch of the Penobscot River. Good photos taken and can be found on Flickr.com. This rare bird in Maine is even less likely in Maine in February so a great bird first reported by someone and then Craig Kesselheim. The Coot was diving on occasion on the eastern side of Upper Falls Road and Soper Road as reported by Craig. There is a small turnout on Soper to make observations. Re-confirming that the bird looks healthy and has some Mallard friends.
