RE: [Maine-birds] alewife runs?

The collection of cormorants on the rocks below the Brunswick Dam last night suggests to me that at least a few are in the Androscoggin.

For the Damariscotta run, Mother's Day usually sees the alewives in in numbers, although it can be later in cold years.  Some years are earlier.  A few warm sunny days ought to do the trick.

One place to check is the Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration website at http://damariscottamills.org/

Their latest post is from 4/28 noting "Waiting for fish.....No sign of alewives in the fish ladder yet but at least one osprey has been sighted carrying an alewife so they can't be far off. Keep checking back for updated information about fish movements."

Does anyone know if alewives have started running anywhere?

Thank you,
