[Maine-birds] Monhegan, 5.24.14

Arrived yesterday afternoon with my husband Paul. It's a different scene than last weekend, for sure. But for a day plus that was relatively quiet bird-wise, we entertained ourselves well with the few birdy pockets we found. We're up to16 warblers, including MOURNING (one of the first birds we saw off the boat yesterday!), Canada, Tennessee (2), multiple Wilson's; dipped on Blackburnian and Bay-breasted.

Other highlights included:
Virginia Rail-1+ calling in Meadow
Summer Tanager-1 (thanks, Derek!)
Am. Woodcock-1 displaying last night in the ball field
Bank Swallow-1 over Meadow
E. Wood-pewee-1 FOY
Brown Thrasher-2, pair with nesting material
Winter Wren-1 singing in Cathedral Woods, a cherished sound
Bobolink-4-5 in Meadow
Indigo Bunting-2, 1 1st spring male, 1 female

Missed Orchard Oriole (seen by Derek Lovitch's group), Philadelphia Vireo (reported by Mathias Deming and Fyn Kind)

Another highlight was watching the Murdocks row four goats over to their summer grazing grounds on Manana this morning. And visiting Monhegan Brewing.
