[Maine-birds] Schoodic Point banding station

FYI
Passerine banding update: over 1000 birds banded thus far, with nearly one third of total = Black-capped Chickadee.
58 species in all. Interesting to see BCCH and Red-Breasted Nuthatch in nearly equal numbers here and there
around the peninsula. Yet just 60 or so RBNU have been captured.
Chickadees are more prevalent foraging from ground into mid-canopy, while nuthatches remain mostly at spruce treetops.
A Northern Saw-whet Owl project is underway as well (at a nearby wildlife refuge).
We are seeing and hearing saw-whets on the Schoodic Education and Research Center campus - and several have
been caught just after dawn in the passerine nets.

Good birding!
