Of potential interest because it's so late in the spring: US Fish & Wildlife staff found a lingering Snowy Owl yesterday on Pond Island, part of the Maine Coastal Islands NWR off Popham Beach. The bird was feeding on an eider.
Pond Island is a designated seabird nesting island and is therefore off-limits to the public from April 1 - August 31.
