[Maine-birds] Fwd: eBird Report - Monhegan Island, May 26, 2012

I think I'm getting better at these eBird entries. Hopefully this list won't require future editing as some of my past ones have. That's what I get for trying to use this newfangled iPad app and practice those four-letter codes!

Fewer birds today than when I was here last Saturday, for comparison, but we also stayed almost entirely in the village. Will explore more tomorrow. Started in thick fog, now bright sun. You know what they say about Maine weather... Interestingly, fewer birders than last Saturday, too.

Highlights for my husband and me:
-great looks at singing Mourning Warbler at the edge of the Meadow (fortunately several other birders got in on that one)
-continuing to hear the White-eyed Vireo and Tenn. Warbler in the same places as last weekend
-huge flocks of waxwings--my favorite bird
-gnatcatchers
-lots of blackpolls--great opportunities to look at males, females, and young males near each other
-Lots of siskins still, all over
-Bobolink singing right in front of me
-just being out here!

On the boat from Port Clyde the captain reported a puffin, but we, of course, were on the wrong side of the boat.
