Bill Schlesinger sent me a photograph taken by his wife, Lisa Dellwo, that shows this bird is a domestic Graylag Goose. The bird is similar to last fall's (mid-November 2011) domestic Graylag found on Sabattus Pond. The Lubec birds shows a heavy and distended paunch between the legs, which I don't think a wild Graylag would show; otherwise its plumage is typical of the species. The photo shows pink legs and feet, a heavy and pinkish orange bill, and pale gray head with similarly colored thick neck. Thanks to Bill Schlesinger for sleuthing this one.
This is an example why it is good to look closely at birds that are "out-of-season," which a Greater White-front would be in mid to late May. But, no worries! It is better to report birds so they can get sorted out. I want to thank Jennifer for that.
