Re: [Maine-birds] Green Point WMA - Bell's Vireo, etc. Oct 7

Mike and everyone,

That's a Bell's Vireo at Green Point WMA, and no doubt a different
bird even if the Monhegan bird goes missing. Congratulations!

Mike describes a number of important characters in his eBird list, but
one not mentioned is the comparatively long tail held cocked up. This
behavior and structure is classic for Bell's Vireo. The pattern and
coloration around the eye is wrong for White-eyed Vireo, which has
yellow or greenish yellow spectacles and surrounding feathers
(greenish border to lores and eyerings). The pale bill (maxilla)
versus a blacker bill on WEVI is also good for Bell's. The wing
pattern is strong for Bell's but correct in every way, showing the
prominent lower wing bar.

Folks can compare with my imm. White-eyed from Sears Is. on Sept 28th.

Well done, Mike.
