[Maine-birds] thoughts on the selasphorus hummingbird

I was looking at pictures of the selasphorus hummingbird today, and doing some searching online, and I found a few things of interest. One is this flickr site, with a wealth of pictures of hummingbirds, including good ones of rufous and broad-tailed tail patterns.

One thing is apparent, is that in the hills beach bird, R2, (the 2nd to inner most tail feather) looks to have rufous on the inner part of the feather, a feature I haven't seen on any Broad-tailed Hummingbirds. Also, the tail doesn't seem that broad or long, and seems more in line with Rufous Hummingbird, and in my experience with Broad-tails out west, they seem noticeably bigger and longer tailed, but I've never had to ID one without other hummers to compare to. I'm eagerly awaiting what experts think of the tail pattern and chip notes.

This website

has lots of ID notes about selasphorous hummers, and mentions that the broad-tailed has a distinctive call note.
