[Maine-birds] Auburn GRCO, Andro. Co. winter visitors

Hello All,

As I was doing a river survey from the Auburn River Walk a bird that I first noted by its large wingspan, low to the water flying straight toward me.  It passed just above eye level no more than 30 yards away.  Heavy head and neck, pale bill with light chin, darkish neck with contrasting white belly revealed it as an immature Great Cormorant.

A Cooper's Hawk scattered the pigeons and Ring-billed Gulls and was escorted away by a couple of crows.

North River Road in Auburn had a good collection of frugivores:  9 Eastern Bluebirds and 6 Cedar Waxwings working over a multi-flora rose, 13+ Pine Grosbeaks at junction with Stetson Road near crabapples, and a flock of 21 Common Redpolls feeding near the waxwings and bluebirds.

A Northern Shrike was on the Davis Road in Durham.  Adult Bald Eagle at the Durham Boat Launch.
