Hello,
The Mount Desert Island CBC took place Saturday, December 15 with 24 participants tallying 70 species, which tied the record set in 1961. Most species fell within normal ranges compared to past years. Exceptions were high counts for Wild Turkey (36) and Bald Eagle (26). Bald Eagle were particularly active this year, due in part to the cold temperature rovering around 5 F wind chill. Pine Grosbeaks numbers were high but not a record at (67)and almost always easily seen close-up. We had one Chipping Sparrow found at a feeder.
I am Happy to not be collecting fees BUT hope everyone still contributes financially to this important event.
Personal thanks to Fred Yost and Amy Damboise for helping out with the cold northern sector and to the rest of the MDI CBC counters who never fail to amaze me with their dedication to the MDI CBC.
Happy Holidays to you all,
Michael
