While assisting with the Hartland CBC yesterday a male Red-bellied Woodpecker was noted in Newport near the River Walk. At least one Hoary Redpoll was observed in Pittsfield in town just west of Hartland Ave. The location was near a large purple house just off the rail trail in town. At least two very pale birds were seen - one showed unstreaked undertail coverts and a whitish, nearly unstreaked rump in scope viewing. It appeared to be a female or immature with a peachy upper breast. Very little ventral streaking other than upper breast sides. Redpolls continue to be widespread in good numbers and were nearly the only finch species seen.
Good birding.
